March has been a busy month for us here in Lafitte, with lots of customer catching their share of red fish and making memories that’ll last forever. We’ve had mostly beautiful weather with an occasional cold front to stir things up for a couple days . All in all we’ve been fortunate and the fish have been cooperative. The cold fronts should become a distant memory as we proceed into April and weather patterns will stabilize with temps in the 60’s-80’s.
When the weather stabilizes the fish get into a pattern, with the bait congregating in areas the red fish become more predictable and easier to target. Don’t get me wrong the fishing has been good but its gonna get a lot better here in the next couple weeks to come .
We caught a couple stray speckle trout here in the last few days . I don’t know if it was the freezing temps this winter or what, but the Speckle trout haven’t been this year what they have been in years past. As the shad start to move in and the shrimp grow the trout will find their way in our paths and onto our hooks. As for now we will continue to chase red fish. Its always nice to catch a few trout but my main targeted species is red fish.
